Day 5 of 25 Days of Christmas from my ancestors.

My uncle Bill Snyder is my grandma’s baby brother.

This man was larger than life and his heart matched.

We would go to his house growing up in Emeryville. He and his wife used to have a pool in their backyard, so all the family gatherings would be there.

Uncle Bill was always very welcoming, he would give you the shirt off his back if you took it.

His hands were so large they looked like clubs, but he was the biggest teddy bear.

Family to him was everything, including his siblings.

He adored his wife and kids, and they were the apples of his eye.

You very rarely saw them apart.

He worked at Chrysler in Windsor until his retirement.

A family man right to the heart. He loved to BBQ and cook, and there was always cold beer in the fridge. He loved to play cards, and you could also find him around a poker table. He was also a hunter and loved being outdoors.

He loved to make his wine, and he would always help when the family got together to make pierogies.

He would tease and get you going, but you knew it was always in love. His heart shined through his eyes all the time.

The gifts I got from Uncle Bill are:

  • Family is the heart of everything

  • It doesn’t matter how others treat you, as long as you respond in love

  • I learned that there are men out there that are gentlemen and don’t settle for less

  • Make the time for the things you love

  • The bigger they are the bigger the heart

  • Siblings are an extension of your family

Uncle Bill gave me hope that there are amazing genuine men out there that would treat a lady right. His heart is the biggest thing I remember about him, how he loved his family. You could go years without seeing him but the minute you did it was like no time had passed at all.

I encourage you this holiday season to reach out to someone who was like your Uncle Bill and just invite them out for a beer or your drink of choice and make some memories that will get you through your rough times.

Be like Bill and show the heart of Christmas to someone today.

I would love to hear about an uncle in your life that had a big heart and made an impact on you.

With love and gratitude,

Dorothy
